There are nine drawings of sharks, eight of them made it onto this quilt. The other one is a bonus shark which is breaching out of the water like a whale, and his teeth are showing. I didn't want to keep any little kids up at night over sharks looking like they wanted to eat children.
This is a pattern for a fused appliqued quilt with satin stitching. All the drawings are full sized. If you've never made a quilt before watch out FREE videos to learn all the techniques. This pattern is 13 pages long. There are three closeup photos in the snail mailed pattern and four in the PDF pattern.
My quilt, pictured in the photograph above, is 41" wide and 23" high. I hand dyed the background fabrics. It wasn't hard. The PFD cotton fabric, three shades of blue dye, and soda ash are all available at DharmaTrading.com. (I do not give you step by step dying instructions. There are lots of books for that.) I made test strips for the colors to see what they would look like and used them for some of the sharks. Then I jumped in and painted my fabric according to the plan I had in my head, and I was pleasantly surprised by the rust color that appeared. That gave me the idea to cut the background to make borders and sew them to the opposite sides.
An advantage to a PDF pattern is that you don't have to wait longer than 24 hours to get your pattern. When you purchase a PDF pattern, the location for the download will be emailed to you within 24 hours.
I always assume that you don't know how to do any of the applique and quilting techniques needed to make up one of my patterns. We have How to Applique videos if you learn visually. Watch our designer, Debora Konchinsky take you through all the steps to make a Critter Pattern Works quilt.
