This is a small project to learn how to do Needle Felted Applique. I found this felting tool in 2008 (three barbed needles in a pen-style holder by Clover)  and purchased some wool fibers and a 2" thick piece of upholstery foam and started to play. The tool is used to poke wool fibers into wool fabric. I added the idea of using an applique so you know where the edges of your design are. A light box for tracing will not help you to trace through wool. It is too dense. I use the wool applique on the wool background and poke the applique in place with the felting tool. The wool fibers and the tool's needles have barbs and together they create felt by hooking fibers together. I loved this idea so much, I stopped making cotton quilts and focused solely on wool from then on. Now I find that working on handwork is a new trend, known as slow stitching. You can complete any of our wool projects totally in your lap, or add a little bit of machine sewing when attaching blocks together, and when adding borders.
