This pattern teaches how to do fusible raw edge applique, how to make non-matching blocks work  together, how to choose colors for the threads to get the contrast needed to make the dogs look round.  Even if you have never made a quilt before, you can do this if you know how to work a sewing machine.  The instructions cover everything you need to know including how to machine quilt and sign your name and the date on the quilt when you are done and sew on the binding with mitred corners.

We've noticed that more and more people are including small dogs in their families.  If you go on line, you can buy the most outrageous costumes for Halloween or weddings and other festive occasions.  This pattern originally called for our newsletter list folks to send in photos of their costumed dogs.  When not enough photos were forthcoming, I decided that maybe my list people were not that off the wall crazy, so I scaled back the theme to just small dogs having fun.

This pattern includes full sized drawings of all the dogs, with the patterns for the spots and collars and such, included for the full-bodied dogs and all the details showing how to sew the many different kinds of fur: long, short, bi-colored, curly and fly-away.

The quilt in this photo is 36" x 46".

We have made several quilts with this pattern and they all come out with different measurements because the arrangement of the blocks has been different.  Should you leave out a block the whole configuration changes.  If you make one block twice (reversing the design and using in a different fabric) the whole configuration changes.  Also, if you used all the designs in this pattern twice, the quilt could be really big.  Combining this pattern with other Critter Pattern Works patterns will vary the size of the finished quilt even more.

How do we combine blocks of different sizes?  If you have a long block and a shorter one and you want them to go together, add a strip of fabric in a different value (darker or lighter than the ones around it) to the shorter one.  Sew those two fabrics to the longer applique block and square them up on the outside edges.  This is now a unit.  Make more units.  If the units don't fit exactly together, add more strips to make them work together.  When all your units sewn together and are big enough to make it the quilt size you desire, add a border and quilt it.

The PDF file for this pattern has lots of color closeup photos and some of the pattern drawings are in color.  When you order a PDF pattern, the download location will be sent within 24 hours of placing your order.

PDF-format patterns are NOT available to our wholesalers.  Wholesalers need to order printed patterns instead.
